Eddy learning reflection week 9

This week we presented our projects to the community in the college hall. I feel our group could have done more to improve our project over the time we had but I was still happy with ours. Here are my thoughts on our NPDL topic. I didn't enjoy the question we had to do I didn't like the power topic as personally I had no interest in the overall power question. I did not enjoy having more than one teacher as It would get really confusing when you would get told something by one teacher and something else by another teacher. I would have enjoyed this if we had stayed in our original  classes and got to pick our own topics.

Towards the end of the whole topic my group had to change our original question (how much power does Otaki use per month) to another question which was how can we use less power in our household because we could not get good enough answers. Overall I did not enjoy the NPDL learning I would not like to do it again.

Eddy learning reflection-week 7

This week we have learned about how much power is used and how we can reduce this. This week our group hasn't worked as efficiently as last week but we still got a good amount of work done. I have helped reach out to energise Otaki and helped see what our next steps are. Our team work is going well and we are making fast progress. We are stuck on where to go next and if our questions is suitable. We are going to go improve this by working around our question to get some more information. Our next steps are to get to talk to energise Otaki and work around our questions so we can get better information. We also are going to start our project which is going to be a poster.

Learning reflection NPDL- week 6

This past week I have learned loads of new interesting facts about power in Otaki. We spent a lesson in the science lab learning about fire power and got given some power monitors which is really cool. We have contacted someone from energise Otaki hoping they can come in and talk to us to give us some information. We have worked really effectively filling out all the stickers in out chart. We all wrote down and planned questions to ask energise Otaki. We are getting lots of work done each week and progressing fast. I want to put more focus into working with my group, i can do this by paying more attention and not getting off task. Our next steps are to research more and talk to energise Otaki.

10T Radio show - Eddy Vidulich

This term we have been working on our radio show project, each group picks a subject and finds some people to interview about the subject. My group's segment was about Otaki college sports, We interviewed the captain of the basketball team as well as a player from one of our netball teams.

Here's the link to our interviews.

Our groups teamwork went really well I think our overall grade would be a merit as we met many of the criteria but could of improved.

I found the most challenging thing was remembering what to say and to speak more clearly, next time I would make a script.

I think I worked well in the group, i'm proud of myself for working out how to work the editing app. Next time I think I shouldn't distract my group members as much.

My communication skills were alright but I should have spoken more clearly and sounded more enthusiastic. My next goal would be to speak a lot more clearly.

I did enjoy this project I liked how we had to work independently and get our own stuff down. I would suggest to our teacher to give us a little more time next time.

Thank you and please listen to our interviews on Otaki college sports interests!

Boy in striped pyjamas, essay- Eddy

This is my essay on the boy in striped pyjamas

In John Boyne's novel The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, an important relationship is between Bruno and Shmuel. This relationship helped me to understand a key message, which is that nothing can stop a strong bond of friendship. In my opinion this novel shows and informs people like myself, the devastating truth about World War ll.

In the novel, Bruno, a 9-year-old boy from Berlin, is forced to move with his family for his father's job. Bruno didn't know what his father's job involved, all he knew was he was a high ranked soldier. Bruno and his family moved next to a concentration camp called Auschwitz where Shmuel was imprisoned. Bruno is an adventurous boy. As soon as he arrived at their new house he was eager to explore, "He went upstairs and turned slowly around in a full circle, hoping he might find a small door or cubby where a decent amount of exploration could eventually be done." That helped me to understand that at the time Bruno didn't know what his father did for work and enjoyed exploring.

Bruno had spent most of his time exploring but there was one place he had not. The back yard was strictly out of bounds and he wasn't allowed anywhere near it. Bruno's curiosity got the best of him and he snuck behind the back of the house. Something caught Bruno's eye as he explored all through the trees and shrubs. Bruno saw a dot along the other side of the large barbed fence as he wandered closer as the dot grew larger and larger. As the author said, "The Dot That Became a Speck That Became a Blob That Became a Figure That Became a Boy." That's how Bruno met Shmuel, with his curiosity. That showed me how Bruno and Shmuel met.

Every day Bruno would meet Shmuel on the opposite side of the fence, he would bring a ball or sometimes food, as Shmuel was often hungry. All the times Bruno visited Shmuel their friendship grew stronger. Through their visits Bruno and Shmuel learnt more about each other and came to realise how alike they were and how many things they had in common, "'Because my birthday is April the fifteenth too, and I was born in nineteen thirty-four, we were born on the same day,' said Bruno." Bruno was extremely happy to find a friend as he was getting very lonely at Out-With.

The relationship between Bruno and Shmuel develops from two young boys not sure about each other who then became best friends due to the similarities and kindness within the boys. This relationship helped me understand a key message in the novel, that no matter the race, gender or age you are, friendship is an unbreakable precious bond. In my opinion, more people need to be aware about the horrors of World War ll, this novel is a great emotional ride that informs and shows different perspectives of the Holocaust.
